Florida Braces

The wearing of masks and gloves is only part of the rigorous infection control procedures followed by the doctor and his staff. All instruments are either sterilized or disposed, and we invite your questions at any time.

Unlike a lot of professional offices, we welcome and encourage direct communication with our patients and parents. You may call the doctor, the office manager or the patient manager at any time before, during or after therapy. We have an open-bay concept and policy. Each visit is started with the chairside assistant asking the patient and parent if they have any questions for the doctor or the technical staff. All parents are encouraged to come back into the clinical area at any time, if there are questions or concerns. You are always welcome in the clinical area for observation as well. This office can be reached by phone, fax, automated messaging, e-mail, Web page and by office visits during normal business hours.

Because the orthodontic treatment result is a process that is only possible over time, which often involves several months, it is often possible for us to extend credit to our patients over the treatment time period. In this manner, payments can be made on a monthly basis, solely as a convenience to our patients. Often times, office visits may coincide with a payment period, but this is just as often not the case. It is not to be assumed that orthodontic progress is not made in the absence of office visits and adjustments. In contrast, most orthodontic adjustments may allow orthodontic progress for up to 10 to 12 weeks, thanks to the advent of modern orthodontic techniques, materials and procedures used in our practice. Payment coupons are provided as a convenience to our patients to serve as a reminder when payments are due. In order to prevent a delay in treatment or prolong the prescribed treatment time period, it is necessary to keep payment schedules current in order for us to provide the timely, quality result that is expected from us. Payments to our practice may be made by cash, check, money order or credit card. There is a charge for payments posted after the 10th of the month, as all payments are due on the 1st of each month. There is an additional charge of $35 if a check is returned on a checking account.

In the beginning of treatment, you will be given five “Shark Bucks,” which are $45 certificates. In the event of a broken brace or appliance, there will be a charge due of $45. You will need to either redeem $45 “Shark Bucks” for each broken brace or pay the charge due at the repair appointment.

During the course of treatment, if an orthodontic appliance becomes loose, broken or causes discomfort or soreness of the surrounding soft tissue, first review the written and verbal instructions given to you following the delivery of your appliances. If you need further help, please call our office immediately, so that we can offer our assistance. Often, simple instructions and information over the telephone can help you in managing your temporary condition.

Sometimes, in the event that you experience some unusual discomfort with an orthodontic appliance that requires our direct, professional support during normal business hours, please call our office at 407-359-1960, so that we can make the necessary arrangements to see you IMMEDIATELY, if needed. If you are experiencing pain after normal office hours, please call our emergency pager at 407-972-3962, and we will be available to professionally assist you in any way that we can. If you would like to speak to Dr. Lach personally to discuss any of your concerns, you may call our office at 407-359-1960, Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment.

Generally, most orthodontic patients should plan on visiting their general dentist every three months for routine cleanings, unless recommended otherwise by the dentist. Please be sure to check with your dentist to see if an alternative plan is required for you. Periodic progress reports will be prepared and provided for you and your general dentist, in order to inform you of the orthodontic treatment progress and home care proficiencies.

Orthodontic treatment visit intervals may vary and are scheduled for our patient approximately every 8-12 weeks, depending on the nature of the adjustment and the type of appliance.

Please refer to the Braces…So What Can I Eat? page, which lists the foods that may interfere with your progress during orthodontic treatment. These foods can damage and break orthodontic appliances. Your appliances are designed to withstand normal chewing and dietary habits, with the exception of the chewing of foods included on the list.

Unlike the traditional orthodontic office, Lach Orthodontics feels it is important to build patient relations. Taking pride in customer service, the concept of Patient Managers has evolved. Patient Managers are assistants who will begin your treatment and follow you throughout your orthodontic treatment experience. From the initial placement of appliances to the removal of the braces, your Patient Manager will assist you in understanding your treatment, communicating with your dentist on your progress and scheduling the treatment visits.

Once you have begun your orthodontic treatment, you will be scheduling your routine visits in the treatment area. Your Patient Manager will be responsible for seeing that you have an appointment scheduled before you leave the office. If you have any concerns regarding your appointments, please feel free to ask your Patient Manager.

Because of the nature of the orthodontic band and bond placement procedures, it is necessary for these procedures to be done in the morning or early afternoon hours, in order to assure the quality and timely result that is expected from us. Due to the fact that these appointments may account for up to 10 to 15% of the total number of appointments for the average orthodontic treatment experience, written doctor excuses are available from our office in the event of an absence from school or work. Since the majority of treatment visits are simple routine adjustments by nature, these are often accommodated during our convenient, after-school and evening appointment times. Due to the desirability of these appointment times, it requires that routine orthodontic appliance adjustment appointments be scheduled beginning with an after-school or evening appointment, alternating with a morning appointment time. In this way, all of our patients can be accommodated with the maximum number of convenient appointment times during their entire orthodontic treatment experience. There will be a charge of $45 for any missed appointments without a 24-hour cancellation notice/call.
