RESEARCH
Topic: Lower Incisor Stability Following
Orthognathic Surgery.
The aim of this investigation
was to determine the relationship between the type of surgery, tongue posture
(as an indication of tongue pressure), and lip pressure and the stability of
the lower incisors.
Investigators- Proffit, W.R.; Lach,
D.R.
Role- Research design and
protocol preparation, Data collection, Computer analyses for obtaining
measures, and statistical programming to create data sets and perform
analyses. responsible for manuscript
preparation and presentation at NIDR session in San Francisco, 1989
Topic: Full-face Soft Tissue Response to V-Y Closure
Following Maxillary Intrusion via Lefort 1 Osteotomy.
An investigation in which
comparisons were made between the standard mucosal closure technique and a
refined version (V-Y Closure), altered for the purpose of reducing undesirable
soft tissue responses.
(To be submitted for
publication)
Investigators- Phillips, C.; Lach,
D.R.; Proffit, W.R
Role- Data collection, Data
entry and computer analyses for obtaining measures, statistical analysis,
manuscript preparation
Topic: Comparison of Traditional and
Non-Traditional Indices of Occlusal Status
TPI vs. UNC method to determine
reliability, validity, and correlations between different measures. Disaggregated occlusal variables are being
used to devise a simple method to reliably and validly describe skeletal and
dental variables.
Investigators- Fields; Lach; Lowe
Role- Devising methods of
evaluating dental variables, Data Collection , Analyses
Topic: NHANES III Occlusal and Dentofacial Analysis of
a Sample of Male Orphans in Mexico
The aim of this investigation
was to quantify the findings of an epidemiological survey on an international
sample using the NHANES III occlusal indices.
This data will later be used in a comparison study with school children
reported in a recent U.S. survey.
Investigators- Lach; Fields; Proffit
Role- Research Design Data Collection,
Data Entry, Statistical Analysis
Topic: Caries Experience Among Male Orphans
in Miacatlan, Mexico
The purpose of this
investigation was to report the caries experience of a group of Mexican
children living under similar living conditions. This data was compared to those of other Mexican samples as well
as to U.S. samples (NIDR ’79-80)
Investigators- Lach, D.R.; Disney,
J.L.; Strauss, R.P.
Role- Research Design and
Protocol, Data collection , Data Analysis, Manuscript Preparation (Submitted
for publication in the journal of the Pan American health Organization (PAHO),
June, 1988)
Topic: Analysis of the Diffusion of Fluoride in Tooth
Enamel via Salt Fluoridation Using SIMS
This investigation will
evaluate the uptake of fluoride in teeth via salt fluoridation using Secondary
Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS). this
information will provide knowledge in evaluating recently implemented salt
fluoridation programs in Mexico and Central America.
Investigators- Noren, J.G.
(Gothenburg, Sweden); Lach, D.R.
